Premiere Builders & Remodeling

When Gina and her family purchased their home in Tampa, they saw plenty of potential. They also saw a kitchen that did not match their style or the way they wanted to use their new home.

The existing kitchen featured wood countertops covered with epoxy and cabinets that had been resurfaced and painted black. Bright blue walls surrounded the kitchen and dining area, while a narrow opening separated the kitchen from the adjoining living space. For Gina, the individual finishes were only part of the problem. The entire space felt disconnected.

“We purchased the house and we saw finishes that we didn’t like,” Gina explained. “The opening was very narrow. You couldn’t see in the living room.”

Gina began searching for a kitchen remodeling contractor in Tampa and found Premiere Builders. What began as an idea to update an outdated kitchen developed into a much more complete transformation involving the kitchen layout, flooring, lighting, finishes, and connection between the home’s main living spaces.

The finished renovation changed the way the home looks and feels.

“Feels like we’re walking into an Airbnb because all the renovations just—it looks like night and day from when we first bought the house to now.”

Gina’s home was converted with Premiere Builders Open Concept Kitchen Remodel.

Rethinking the Layout for an Open Concept Kitchen Remodel

One of the most important goals of this Tampa kitchen remodel was creating a stronger connection between the kitchen and living room.

Before the renovation, walls and narrow openings visually separated the kitchen, dining area, and living room. This made the home feel more divided and limited Gina’s ability to interact with family or guests while using the kitchen.

During the initial consultation, the Premiere Builders team began looking beyond surface-level updates. Gina remembers the project manager walking through the home with an iPad, showing previous projects and suggesting possibilities she had not originally considered.

“He was like, ‘Do you want this wall gone?’ Like, just gave us a whole bunch of ideas.”

Opening the space became an important part of the renovation. The redesigned layout created much clearer sightlines between the kitchen and living room, helping the main living areas function together instead of feeling like separate rooms.

For Gina, that change was especially valuable when thinking about entertaining.

“So now if you’re hosting a party, you can see from the kitchen all the way in the living room, which is really cool.”

The before-and-after difference is dramatic. The previously enclosed kitchen now flows directly into the living area, while the new finishes help make the entire space feel brighter and more cohesive.

Choosing a Breakfast Bar Instead of a Traditional Kitchen Island

Gina initially envisioned adding a traditional island to the kitchen. During the design process, however, the Premiere Builders team suggested reconsidering that idea.

Rather than simply installing what had first been requested, the project manager looked at how an island would affect movement and usable space within the room.

“He’s like, ‘No, it’ll make the space smaller. If you have a breakfast bar, it’ll give you more room for seating and all that stuff.’”

That recommendation ultimately helped shape one of the kitchen’s most prominent features.

The new breakfast bar provides generous countertop space and seating while preserving an open pathway through the kitchen and into the living room. Its large white surface also creates a bright visual centerpiece against the gray cabinetry.

Before construction began, Premiere Builders created a 3D rendering that allowed Gina to better understand how the redesigned kitchen would look.

“So then he created the 3D rendering, and that sold us.”

Instead of having to imagine the finished space from drawings or individual material samples, Gina could see how the proposed layout and design choices would work together before the renovation moved forward.

A Tampa Kitchen Remodel Designed Around the Homeowner

For Gina, one of the most memorable parts of the project was how involved she remained in the design process.

“We were definitely a part of the design process. We picked every aspect of it.”

That included major selections such as the new flooring and quartz countertops as well as details such as lighting fixtures.

Finding the right quartz proved particularly important. Gina and her family visited multiple locations without finding a selection they loved. Rather than pushing them toward a material they were unsure about, the team continued presenting alternatives.

“We went to five different places for quartz, and I kept telling him, ‘No, I don’t like this.’ And he sent us a few more, and then we finally found the right one.”

The completed kitchen shows how those individual choices came together. Gray cabinetry replaces the previous black cabinets, while gold-toned hardware adds contrast throughout the room. White quartz surfaces brighten the kitchen and extend across the new breakfast bar. Stainless steel appliances provide a clean, modern finish, while the gold-toned sink and faucet complement the cabinetry hardware and decorative lighting.

The result feels coordinated without losing the personality Gina wanted in her home.

New Flooring Helps Transform the Entire Living Space

The renovation extended beyond the kitchen itself.

New large-format flooring now runs throughout the main living areas, helping visually connect the kitchen with the surrounding spaces. The bright surface and subtle veining create a noticeable contrast from the previous flooring and contribute to the cleaner, more contemporary appearance of the home.

The flooring installation also became one of the biggest surprises of the project.

Gina and her family left for a cruise while the work was underway. When they returned, they were shocked by the progress.

“They got the floors done in a week. So that was astonishing to us. Like, we came back and all the floors were done.”

She recalled that the grout work was being finished and the baseboards were already being installed within that same period.

Completing such a visible portion of the renovation while the family was away helped demonstrate the progress being made even when Gina was not physically present to oversee each step.

Modern Kitchen Finishes Bring the Design Together

While changing the layout dramatically improved functionality, the finished details gave the remodeled kitchen its new personality.

The updated gray cabinetry creates a softer, more contemporary appearance than the previous black cabinets. Quartz surfaces bring brightness into the room, and the new lighting helps highlight the open layout.

Pendant lights over the breakfast bar introduce a warm decorative element, while recessed lighting provides additional illumination throughout the space. Gina was directly involved in these selections as well, sending the team examples of fixtures and styles she liked.

The finished kitchen balances these decorative choices with everyday usability. There is room for seating at the breakfast bar, increased visual connection with the living room, generous countertop space, and a layout designed to avoid making the room feel crowded.

Rather than simply replacing old cabinets and countertops, the renovation changed how the kitchen works within the home.

Working Within a Budget Without Losing the Design

Like most homeowners planning a kitchen remodel, Gina had a budget to consider.

What stood out to her was the way Premiere Builders helped navigate those limits while continuing to search for finishes she actually wanted.

“I sent an email with things that I liked and what I didn’t like. And they were like, ‘Okay, this is in budget. You can go with this.’ Or, ‘No, this is not in budget. You can’t do this.’”

That communication gave Gina a clearer understanding of her options without removing her from the decision-making process.

“But it really wasn’t about the budget. It was about what we liked, and that’s what we enjoyed about it.”

Instead of settling quickly for the first available option, the process remained focused on finding selections that worked for the project while still creating a finished kitchen the family would be happy to live with.

A Kitchen Remodeling Experience Built Around Communication

For Gina, the final appearance of the kitchen was important, but her experience with the people completing the renovation mattered just as much.

She described her project manager as both personable and professional and said that relationship helped make a complicated renovation feel much more manageable.

“It was the best experience. Like my project manager, Yuron, aka Johan, he was so personal but also professional, like made the experience very seamless.”

That relationship became especially valuable as the project moved through the many decisions involved in remodeling a kitchen—from the layout and countertops to flooring, lighting, finishes, and budget considerations.

Gina felt that the team understood what mattered to her rather than treating those choices as minor details.

“Having a good relationship with the people that you are doing a project with is very important because they care about what you care about.”

A Before-and-After Kitchen Transformation in Tampa

Looking at the original kitchen beside the completed renovation shows just how extensively the space changed.

The previous black cabinetry, epoxy-covered wood countertops, bright blue walls, and narrow separation between rooms have given way to a much more open design. The remodeled kitchen now features gray cabinetry, white quartz surfaces, updated lighting, new flooring, stainless steel appliances, gold-toned accents, and a large breakfast bar that connects naturally with the surrounding living space.

More importantly, the layout now works better for the way Gina wanted to use her home.

The kitchen no longer feels separated from the living room. Family members and guests can move more naturally between the spaces, and Gina can remain connected with people in the living area while cooking or entertaining.

The transformation is exactly the kind of change Gina hoped for when she first searched for a kitchen remodeling company in Tampa—even if the final design evolved beyond what she originally imagined.

“This company really listens to what you want,” Gina said.

And after seeing the finished home, her recommendation was simple:

“I would absolutely recommend Premiere Builders.”

Planning a Kitchen Remodel in Tampa, FL?

A successful kitchen renovation can involve much more than replacing cabinets and countertops. Layout, sightlines, flooring, lighting, seating, material selections, and the way the kitchen connects with the rest of the home can all affect the final result.

Gina’s project shows what can happen when those pieces are considered together.

Premiere Builders works with Tampa homeowners to plan kitchen remodeling projects around both the existing home and the way the homeowner wants to live in it. From exploring layout changes and creating 3D renderings to selecting materials and completing construction, the goal is to create a finished space that feels personal, functional, and connected to the rest of the home.

For Gina and her family, that process turned an outdated kitchen into a space that feels completely different from the home they originally purchased.

Jonathan and his team remodeled my kitchen in a 100+ year old Craftsman bungalow in Hyde Park Tampa. It included removing a wall, building high-end custom cabinets to match the existing ones, new countertops and some amazing millwork. Attention to detail was very important and the carpenter was an artist. The kitchen is now the centerpiece of the home. Jonathan's team is professional and highly skilled. I highly recommend them.

‏Working with shimi was pure bliss! My husband and I recently bought our forever home. An 4000 sqft home in Tampa but it needed a complete remodel of 4 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms. The original home architecture and design was pretty outdated, and we wanted something more modern, and high-end. Premier builders&remodeling was recommended to us by a close friend who he built a beautiful custom home . After meeting Shimi for the first time we knew he was our guy, so we didn’t even interview other contractors. Working with Shimi and his crews was stress-free, of course, we ran into issues while building, but we know it is part of the construction. What was amazing to us is that Shimi always took responsibility and took care of problems on the spot. This has been the best experience we have had with a contractor. He was very thorough, professional and paid attention to the smallest detail. Everyone I came across was professional and worked well together as a team. I would recommend Shimi and company to anyone who cares for working with detail-oriented and reliable professionals. Thank you again!!
